Long Road to Eden

I haven’t been to a good concert since Stampede when Natasha Beddingfield and July Black rocked the Coca-Cola stage. The last great concert I attended was the Eagles at the Pond in Anaheim (ie. where the Ducks play). They rocked the house and played every oldie you know like Hotel California, Desperado, Take it to the Limit, Take it Easy, Love will keep us together and One of these Nights. My favorite was when the band played Hotel California, huddled at the front of the stage with their guitars and no drums. It was an awesome concert.

After being nominated in this year’s American Music Awards, the Eagles are touring again. The closest venue to us is in Edmonton when they play in March 2009. Tickets don’t get on sale until this Saturday so if you want to see a great concert, I urge you to head down to Ticketmaster and pick up some tickets. Or you can go to their site and get a VIP package but let me warn you, they are expensive. The 4 star treatment goes for $295 per ticket and gives up a seat within the first 20 rows. There’s a bunch of freebies that comes with the price, but to get the full 5 star treatment with pre-concert drinks and dinner, you have to pay $595. If you are interested, go to Eagles and use the tour password: eden.

Other concerts to note is Fleetwood Mac playing at the Air Canada centre in Toronto on March 26, 2009. Tickets go on sale on Monday, Dec 15th but if you have an American Express card then your front of the line access can get you tickets starting tomorrow, Friday Dec 12th.

They say rewards will come to those who wait. If you have been patient and not buy any escape tickets then you are in luck because there’s a special from Calgary to Las Vegas from December 14-18 for only $375 with taxes. This includes roundtrip air and 4-nights accomodation at Circus, Circus. And talk about the Circus, ticket buyers were snapping up pre-sale tickets to Britney Spears concert in Edmonton last night. She is playing in Edmonton in April and the Pussycat Dolls are the warm up band.

iPod Connectors

My sister is planning to drive out to Vancouver next week and asked if I wanted to hitch a ride. I hate long car trips so I declined. Instead I took advantage of WestJet’s 50% off travel and booked myself a flight out for $49 each way. With taxes and all, I managed to pay a little short of $300.

I know for $300, you can equip your car with all the latest iPod connectors. Take for example, Griffin’s Roadtrip with SmartScan. Here’s a nifty connector for your iPod that holds it, charges it and transmits music to the clearest broadcast frequency automatically. And the cool thing will transmit video from your iPod to an in car video system too. Price? It’ll cost you $99.99 for one. Want to save some money? How about 67% off? Get the Roadtrip model without the SmartScan and the cradle for only $29.99.

Another interesting connector is the iKaraoke. Connect this to your iPod and it will filter out the lead vocal, allowing you to sing over top of the tune. The unit takes its power from your iPod and comes with its own microphone and control to start, stop, skip and repeat the music. The iKaraoke costs $49.99.

Last but not least, if you get a Journi Personal Sound System for $129.99, you can get a iKaraoke for free. Interested? Visit us and I’ll tell you where you can catch this deal.

Mac’s 2 for $22

If you can’t get a tee time at Kananaskis, try a round at Wintergreen. You won’t get spectacular Rocky Mountain vistas from Wintergreen, but you will get lots of elevation change and lots of water hazards. The Mount Lorette course is more wetter than the Mount Kidd course in Kananaskis but Mount Kidd has the par 3 signature hole that challenges the golfer with its almost island green. For Calgary residents, show your Co-op ValuePlus card before July 13, 2008 and save $10 off the green fees.

Want to save some money on Stampede admission? There are a few ways to get in for cheaper. One way is to buy the special package at Mac’s Convenience stores. For $22, you get two adult tickets and two bottles of a Coca-Cola beverage. That is at least a $6 saving because the regular price of admission is $13 each. Another way is to buy 5 chocolate bars then take the 5 wrappers to get $3 off the admission. Your local Zeller’s stores have that offer.

I’m saving up my Stampede’ing for July 11th where Jully Black and Natasha Bedingfield are going to perform on the Coca-Cola stage. If you know the songs ‘Seven Day Fool’ and ‘Pocketful of Sunshine’ then get on down to the Stampede for some of their music.

I Hear a Symphony

I hear Diana Ross was in town last night. I think it must have been a good concert. Talking about Diana Ross’ song, ‘I Hear a Symphony’ – here’s a cool device from Sharper Image called the BEAMZ. It is a desktop device that utilizes laser beams. When you wave your hands over these beams, the device streams music through your PC. It doesn’t take any talent to make music with the BEAMZ so it’s perfect for me. I like to play a musical instrument but don’t have the patience to learn how to read musical notes. You might be the same. Check out the video on Sharper Image.

Anyways, the BEAMZ sells for $599.99, a little pricey but it sure looks like fun.

New Road Manager Needed

I need to get ready for tonight’s performance because I am attending the Chinese Spectacular show that is touring the country. The last time I saw something like this was in Xian where the terra cotta warrior museum is. The show features the Divine Performing Arts Troupe from China and I think we are going to be treated to a very good show filled with colorful costumes and daring martial art feats.

I think the troupe needs a new road manager because looking at their show schedule, you will see that they are performing in Calgary, Canada tonight and Friday then they head down to Cleveland, Ohio on Saturday before returning to Edmonton next week for 3 nights. After Edmonton, they travel to Huntsville, Alabama. There has been a lot of publicity and marketing for this show. If you’re planning on seeing this show and want to save some money, look for a show stand at a local oriental mall. Tickets may be purchased there at a 10% savings and tickets start at $55. if you can’t find the stand, you can pay full price at Ticketmaster.

Spring Cleaning your Music Collection

Here’s a little spring cleaning tip for you this weekend. If you are organizing your CD collection and find that there are CD’s that you just have not played with lately, put them aside and sell them. I just did with about half of my collection. With an iPod (or other music player), this is the time to transfer your music from CD to your PC or download it directly to your player.

Selling CD’s on ebay is not easy – you still have to take a picture of it, upload the picture and write something about the artist, music, its condition, terms and conditions of the bid, sale and shipping costs. To me, that’s too much work. Go to our website to find out where to sell your unwanted CD’s, DVD’s or games painlessly and quickly. You just sign up by entering your email address, shipping address and payment type, either by PayPal or a check. Then you search for the CD that you wish to sell to get the value or their buying price. Depending on how current or how popular the CD is, they will pay 25 cents up to $5.00 for each single CD and more for boxed sets. I think in general, they are pretty fair. I just sold a Mary J Blige CD for $3 but the Aida music from Elton John and Tim Rice only fetched 25 cents. If the price is satisfactory then you check it and add it to your cart. When you checkout, all the CD’s that you plan to sell will be in the cart and the total will show a credit. From there, you can choose to buy CD’s from them or just checkout. Upon acceptance, they will display a page with your order number on it and an email will be sent to your email address. You will receive an email detailing what to do next which is to package your CD’s and address it with the order number that is in the email. When they receive your CD’s, they will credit you by sending you a check or crediting your PayPal account. And one more thing, they will credit you back for the postage that you paid when you shipped them the CD’s using the media mail rates.

When it comes to spring cleaning, the key is to reduce the clutter and this is one painless way to reduce dusty CD’s from your music collection.

Not 1-2-3-4 but 5 Junos

Feist at JunosIt was a great show from the red carpet to the stage. I saw Avril Lavigne, Feist, Finger Eleven, Hedley, Ill Scarlet, Jully Black, Anne Murray, Paul Brandt, Michael Buble and more. The sound system was awesome and they had video running on large screens that rendered my binoculars useless. Host Russell Peters said this was the best ticket in Canada last night and he was right. With performances by Avril Lavigne, Jully Black, Finger Eleven and the boys from Hedley, the Junos was described as a rock marathon. From the awards perspective, it was a total upset for artists like Celine Dion (who didn’t show) and Avril Lavigne (who performed her hot single, Girlfriend). Calgary raised Feist took home not 1-2-3-4 but 5 Junos.

Junos and Kudos

Sorry about not writing sooner but today, I was traveling to Calgary, Canada where the 2008 Juno Awards is taking place this weekend. I heard from the cab driver that artists were performing on the light rapid transit every day this week, offering free music to riders. That is cool. And I guessed I missed the outdoor concert on Thursday night that rocked the city centre. But that’s ok, I have tickets for the actual Juno Awards on Sunday night before it gets broadcasted on tv.

The city is alive and kicking with music events planned all weekend long. Later today is a jam session at the Olympic Oval where they had the 1988 Winter Olympics speed skating competitions. It should be exciting for the fans to get up close and get autographs from their favorite Canadian artists.

I went out for a real nice dinner tonight at Calgary’s best sushi restaurant. It’s a little outside of the downtown core but it rocks. It’s call Misato and it’s in the Signal Hill area. Their signature roll is called the Calgary Roll and it has the freshest ingredients in it including salmon, tuna, shrimp, crab, avocado and seaweed. It is truly the best sushi in town. And talking about restaurants, please go to restaurant.com and use the code: DINING before pressing recalculate. That should give you a 50% discount off the certificates. But the coupon code is only good until Sunday, April 6.

I didn’t rent a car this weekend because I’m staying pretty close to the light rapid transit or LRT as they call it here. But if you need some codes and do not visit our site then I have two BCD codes for Budget Rent-a-Car in case anyone is renting. Use BCD U102900 if you want to pay $204 per week for a premium car rental from the airport or $194 per week from the neighborhood locations. I have weekend rates too where you can save $5 off economy rates in San Jose, compact rates in Baltimore and intermediate rate in Boston with BCD U030089. And weekly rates where you can save $25 off economy rates in Long Beach, intermediate rates in Tallahassee and standard SUV in Reno, use BCD U030088. These codes are not published anywhere, including our site so please take them down and use them in the future to save you some money.
