Free is a 4-letter word

It’s that time of the year again when everyone you turn, someone is giving you a free calendar. Over the weekend, T&T Supermarkets were handing out auspicious Chinese calendars for customers who bought more than $38 worth of groceries. They varied in size, ranging from a small fridge magnet type to a full 11×14 portrait size. I managed to get a desk calendar with two weeks’ worth of groceries.

If you are a Telus customer, get your free 2009 calendar by clicking here. Enter your Telus cellphone number, residential or business number into the form and you’ll get your calendar 5-6 weeks from now. With the Telus calendar, you will most likely get a simple yet elegant calendar with fish, rabbits, iguanas, birds and meerkats on it.

If you’re not into animals and prefer to get $5 off for Ocean Spray products then click here and get a free Ocean Spray 2009 calendar. Offer is good until supplies last and for Canadian residents only.

If you are looking for something technical and free, give your boss an anonymous gift by sending him/ her a Virtualization Dummies book from Sun Microsystems. Here’s the link for your free book. Like most Dummies book, it’s probably worth at least $10.

And last but not least, here’s the link for a free 2-year subscription to Lego.

Halloween for Free Seekers

Tonight might not be a good night because the skies are cloudy and the ghosts and goblins will be out in full force. It’s Halloween and tonight is a Friday’s night. Perhaps, next Friday when the skies are clear you can take your kids down to the Telus World of Science and stargaze for free.

But if you’re looking to be creeped out and you’re in Vancouver, visit the Dunbar Haunted House. Admission is free but please bring a donation. There is a list of good charities to donate to.

Today is the last day to buy Halloween Gift Certificates from the City of Calgary Recreation. These gift certificates give the little ghouls a FREE SWIM. The cost of the certificates is $5.00 for a booklet of 10. If you’re looking for free public skating, mark your calendars for November 11th and check your City of Calgary Recreation website for a local rink.

McDonald’s is offering Halloween certificates at $1 per booklet which entitles kids to a free small cone. Wendy’s has a similiar booklet, entitling kids to a small frosty.

Drive carefully tonight and watch out for the little ghosts, goblins and ghoulies.
