Get Stiffed Free

It’s cold out there today! How cold is it? I went out to scrape the frost off my windshields and noticed that it was -22 degrees. I read yesterday on Yahoo! that the weather forecasters in the country think that’s the coldest Canada will get this winter. I doubt that very much, considering this is the coldest day yet and a long winter is ahead of us.

I would think that everybody is thinking of the same thing, get away this winter to Jamaica, Barbados, Cayman Islands or Phoenix. For those of you who are thinking of packing your golf clubs and going away to a place where they just overseeded the fairways, let me suggest that you take advantage of a free stiff arm when you buy a travel bag from Golf Town. A stiff arm is a gadget that resembles a ball retriever with a telescoping arm. It is used to prevent vertical impact to your golf bag or in plain english, prevent the top of your bag from bending and breaking your shafts.

There are soft and hard travel bags to choose from. If you check it out at Golf Town, you will see a dizzy array of bags. If you choose a soft bag then a stiff arm is highly recommended. Soft bags have the advantage of being lightweight and giving travellers the extra storage space to put dirty laundry or golf shoes in. Hard bags tend to give less room for extras but provide the greatest protection. Choose accordingly then enter the coupon: 08LB01 online to get your free stiff arm (valued at $34.95).

Drivers under $100

If you haven’t cleaned and stored your golf clubs, get a tee time this weekend at either Woodside, Lakeside, Silverwing, Boulder Creek or Links of Gleneagles because all of these courses are still open. If no tee times exist for Saturday then get up early and go to your local Golf Town because starting at 8am (for Leaderboard members only), all demo clubs will be sold at a substantial discounted price. Sorry, no promo codes are required and no online sales neither.

For those of you who don’t care then let me refer you to the ‘Custom Clubs’ link on our front page. By clicking on this link, you will see the driver that I ordered for my wife that has added at least 20 yards to her drive. She loves it so much that I am ordering one for myself. I managed to try it at the driving range and the ball flew like crazy. There are two models of the GX Square Ti driver, the draw model and regular. My wife has the draw model and once the ball lands, it rolls another 10 yards or so. If you visit this page, you will see the 15% off banner. Click on it and pay roughly $84.90 or less. We went for an upgraded grip because she likes the softer Winn grips.

Gigagolf clubs are solid. Priced like clubs found at Wal-Mart, Gigagolf clubs are a steal at these prices. Go to Golf Town and see what driver you can buy for under $100. Good luck.

BBD is waiting for you

I think it would be foolish of you to think that the BBD (Bigger, Better Deal) is static. I mean, I booked my car for Vancouver next week about 3 weeks ago and thought the BBD was $250 per week. The next week, I checked with Hertz and used a coupon to bring the price down to $206 per week. I was pretty happy saving almost $44 in one week then I decided to check Alamo and found a better price at $185. This week, I looked at Dollar and came up with a rate of $166 but decided to go with Thrifty’s instead at $168. You see, Dollar rents Chrysler Calibers as their compact cars versus the Toyota Yaris that I prefer at Thrifty’s. With the high fuel costs in Vancouver, I think I can around more places with a Yaris with less gas than a Caliber.

The morale of the story is that with car rentals, you have to book, cancel and rebook. Don’t think for a minute that your BBD is it. Try and try again until the last day you fly out. The BBD is around the corner waiting for you. And we will try to help with coupon codes to save you more money. Bookmark our page on car rental to get the latest coupons and promo codes.

Here’s some codes for you to use. Get $15 off a weekend rental at Thrifty’s by using CP87. Or get $25 off a weekly rental at Dollar by using DC103.

Budget a Hard Drive

If you are an avid photographer and enjoy taking pictures when you travel to a faraway land then I think you need one of these. I’m talking about an external hard drive that you connect to your PC or Mac to transfer your photos on. I know what I’m talking about because my wife is the avid photographer and she shoots on average of 200 photos per week. On our last trip when we sailed the Mediterranean, she came back with over 600 photos. Thank God for digital. Can you imagine what the development costs would have been for us if it weren’t for digital?

Since the time we visited Italy, Croatia and Spain, the price of external hard drives have come down dramatically. I bought a 500GB MyBook from Costco last June for $169.99 and thought that was a good deal. Today, for $115, I can buy the 750GB unit or for $210, I can get the 1000GB unit. Ok, these are substantial savings but it means it’s ok to go wild with your photographs.

And since we are on the topic of travelling, here’s some car rental codes that some of you have been asking for. Be sure to quote U102900 when renting from Budget to get a premium car at the airport for $229 per week. Or save $80 in Tucson, Arizona and rent an intermediate car for $99.99 per week when you quote U030089.

Promo Code for Marriott Hotels

I wish we could find a way to lessen the fuel costs so we can get back to traveling around the country. I have a promo code for you to use to access Marriott Hotels and Resorts Exclusive Breaks which are last minute weekend rates at various locations. For example, you can stay in Louisiana Baton Rouge from $63 to $87 per night. Or go to Edmonton and stay at the Marriott for $143 per night. To book, go the Marriott site directly and enter MEB as the promo code.

I also have a promo code that will save you 20% off all hotel stays from Orbitz. You will have to visit us for this one. Sorry.

If you are in the market for a Taylor Made Burner 460 Ti driver, you might as well get a free umbrella with it at TGW. And if you don’t mind playing with 2-year old balls, the 2006 Nike One balls are selling at $24.95. I’m sure they play just as well as the 2008 model but you might have to shake the dust off these gems.

Promo Code at Golf Town

At $10 a shirt at Golf Town, I don’t think you will need a coupon or promo code. Every time I’ve been there, I have seen a rack near the front with $10, $15 and $20 goodies on there. This week, I dropped in on Wednesday and found a nice Aureus sweater for $20. I’m sure it sold for a lot more in the winter. I added it to my Tiger Woods cashmere sweater worth $400 that I also picked up for $10.

Also at Golf Town, I noticed the redesigned CROCS with golf spikes. Now that the CROCS company have BITE GOLF as a subsidiary, we can expect to see a lot more golf sandals in the lineup. I tried one on and I can tell you, it wasn’t very comfortable. My foot was sliding around and my toes were jammed up against the plastic. I can see wearing CROCS for the garden but not on the golf course.

All the golf balls look like they are on sale. I still buy my golf balls from KNetGolf because I cannot afford losing a $6 ball (ie. Titleist Pro V1). I like using expensive balls but don’t want to pay for them. Instead, I will use a coupon and pay $12 for a box of grade A, experienced balls. Now when I lose it, I only lose a buck and a stroke penalty. Be sure to pick up a coupon code from us before you shop there.

All the clubs look like they are on sale too. The unsuccessful (hard-wired) Taylor Made Burner Draw driver is now selling for under $200. If you have a natural slice to your swing, try out the Draw driver and see if it straightens your shot. The Nickent square driver is on sale for $100 – not bad if you want a clone of Callaway FT-i driver or the Nike Sumo Square. I prefer to stick to name brand clubs and like the prices on 3Balls Golf. Again, pick up the coupon code from our site and save yourself an additional 10% off.

Free Sundog Sunglasses

Everybody wants a deeper discount. If you come upon a website where there is a field for a promo code, you have a chance to get a further discount. Take for example, WestJet’s website has a promo code field situated under the Guest portion of the booking page. If you know the special promo code, you can get a deeper discount on top of the 40% off summer travel. Enter the word: CANADA and get an additional 10% off.

Some sites accept coupon codes instead of promo codes. To me, it’s the same thing. For example, if you plan on ordering a delivery from Staples worth $150 or more, use coupon code: 9398  9921  2547  0475 to get $20 off. That’s a pretty long coupon code to enter so just copy and paste it when you checkout.

And here’s another car rental promotional coupon code: 104182. Use it on the Hertz site and save up to 50% off weekend rates. Offer is valid until June 30, 2008 so you have a few days to take advantage of it.

Still looking for promo codes for golf town? Me too. If you leave a comment with your email address, I’ll forward you some coupons that entitle you to a free pair of Sundog sunglasses (worth $50) when you book a round of golf at the Links of Gleneagles in Cochrane (just outside of Calgary). The coupon also has a discount on the golf too.

And if you’re looking for golf shoes, use the coupon code: CLOSEOUT at GolfShoesOnly when you checkout to get free shipping on all clearance shoes.

Come visit us for more coupon codes.

SUV for Compact Price

It happened again when my flight was delayed, Alamo had no more compact cars to rent. On the island of Kauai, I was allowed to pick anything on the lot so I went for a SUV. I wasn’t going to pass up the deal, a SUV for the price of a compact. In Vancouver, I only had one vehicle to choose from and that was a Dodge Caliber which was an intermediate size.

If you want to save money on car rentals, choose the economy size when you want a compact. Nine out of ten times you will end up with a compact because they don’t stock a lot of economy cars. I can almost say the same for compact cars. Choose a compact when you want an intermediate and when they run out of compacts, surprise! You get an intermediate or full size for the price of a compact car.

Budget has new deals, get a intermediate SUV at the airport for $189 per week using the BCD U030073. That’s a saving of 55%. If you’re visiting Walt Disney World in Orlando, you can rent an economy size car for $15.99 using BCD U030088. Pray that they run out of economy cars and get a compact car for the same price. If you are in Dayton, Ohio, be sure to use the same BCD to get a premium car for $26.99, a saving of $25 off.
