A Good Night Sleep on a Cloud

More and more people are spending time at home these days. It’s not just because the country is going through a recession, but people are just rediscovering their home and spending more quality time in and around the house.

My last project around the house was due to a good hotel stay at the Savoy Hotel in San Francisco. We were there a few years ago and enjoyed our stay so much that we took home their robes. We thought it was nice of them to provide complimentary robes for our stay, but when we arrived home, we found a charge on our visa bill. I found a small note in my pocket, saying what they would charge us if the robes left the hotel. (I just hope they were new.)

It was just the other day that we took out these robes to wear after relaxing in our jacuzzi. The hotel’s logo on the robes reminded us of the weekend in San Francisco, the seafood at the wharf and the restful sleep we had.

The project involved upgrading the bed. When we stayed at the Savoy Hotel in San Francisco, we had come in from the rain with a take out pizza and dessert. We wanted to relax in the tub with the pizza on hand and two cups of tea. Afterwards, we would relax in front of the television with our creme brulee dessert that we picked up down the block from our hotel.

Filling our appetites, we moved from the bathtub to the bed, just to lay down and cool off from our bath. The bed was so soft and I almost heard myself snoring. It was so relaxing and comfy.

We both got off the bed and pulled the sheets over. To our surprise, there was something that resembled a duvet underneath the bed sheet. When we got home, we went to a Pacific Coast store and asked for a duvet that you sleep on. The store clerk didn’t know what we were talking about. She said a duvet is what you sleep with on top, not underneath you. I knew it sounded stupid but that’s what we saw.

Anyways, we looked around ourselves and found it. It’s a featherbed. It’s like a mattress pad but better. I recommend a down filled one instead of the one that is filled with polyfill. Pay the difference because sleeping on it is like night and day. The one with the down has the comfort and in the summer, you won’t have to remove it because the down actually keeps you cool. It works in reverse in the winter, keeping you warm and toasty.
