No Print Boarding Pass

I had to print my boarding pass for tomorrow’s flight but only one problem – no printers in the house! I know it sounds ridiculous but not really, it happens all the time. For instance, when I visit my folks. They have an old computer to connect to the internet for email, etc. but they don’t have a printer neither. Then there’s my home away from home, in a hotel on a business trip. They don’t have printers installed in your room but you can print it downstairs in their business centre for a nominal charge.

Tonight I wanted to be creative so I went to the Air Canada site and did an online check-in. When ready to print my boarding pass, I saved it as a PDF. Next I went to www.faxzero.com and entered my information. I chose my boarding pass PDF and entered my fax number. To confirm your email, they will send you a confirmation to which you have to respond by clicking on a link inside your email. After they confirm your email, they send your fax. Within a few minutes, my boarding pass was on my fax machine.

With FaxZero.com, you can send two faxes free everyday. If you need more, you can pay $1.99 for premium service. Otherwise, two a day is fine with me. Next experiment is to check-in with my iPad and fax my boarding passes to the hotel so that I don’t incur any printing charges.

Play it Again or Save it Again

I turned a bunch of guys onto golf. Instead of sending them to Dick’s or Roger Dunn’s, I sent them over to Play It Again Sports. They wanted me to go with them to pick out clubs that I would play with so I did and I found some pretty hot deals. I found a set of Callaway X-Tour irons for $199, Hawkeye VFT irons for $149 and Nike Slingshot irons for $149. Take your pick. After telling them that I will continue to send people over to pick up a set, they decided to give me 20% off. With that discount, I picked up the X-Tour irons for only $152. My buddy picked up the Hawkeye VFT irons and a Callaway bag for $150 total.

Play It Again has a great selection of used golf bags, golf balls, fairway woods, hybrids and single irons. They even have used golf shoes but that’s where I would draw the line. I wouldn’t recommend picking up old shoes, instead check out RockBottomGolf and get a pair of cheap Adidas’ shoes there. They are new and unused and clean.

As beginners, you don’t need new clubs. When you groove your game, you will want another set so save up, take lessons and be patient.

I’ve been shopping online again. Last week, I gave in and bought myself a Blu-Ray player. I watched Avatar on it tonight and loved it all over again. The colors were spectacular and the clarity was incredible. Ok, it was well worth the $19 that I paid for the dvd and blu-ray disc. By the way, my blu-ray player also plays dvd.

If you haven’t been sold on switching your dvd collection to blu-ray then don’t. But if you have a HDTV, you owe it to yourself to keep up with technology. Today’s stock market was down because there is no consumer confidence on spending. Hmmm, I guess it doesn’t include me as I have been shopping online since January. I think this is a buyer’s market. I used to be a frequent flyer but lately, I really dread air travel. I’m becoming more and more like my friend Kirk who is scared of heights and don’t like flying. I braved it this weekend and flew home. After coming off on the 405, I was heading towards the Westin hotel where I normally park my car. I dreaded parking my new vehicle in the dark and glooming parkade in the back. I think we are all shopped out. The shopping spree started last Monday and it just ended yesterday at the Camarillo Outlet. The best deal was a party dress from Kohl’s at $6.80 after all the discounts. The original price was $44.95.

If you have the time and patience to go through the clearance racks, you can find some incredible deals. I found a soft shell jacket by Free Country for only $20 at Kohl’s. An equivalent NorthFace soft shell jacket sells for $150+. I also picked up a pair of down slippers at Eddie Bauer for only $9.99, Puma golf shoes for 50% and Adidas training shoes at $33.95 less 20% off.

On Friday, Macy’s were offering 20% off to anything as long as you wore something ‘red’. Not her favorite color to wear, my wife picked up a $8 red shirt at Target and saved herself a whooping $48 off a pair of leather shoes from Italy.
