They say when a recession hits, people flock to movie theatres. With the release of James Bond and the highly anticipated next installment of Harry Potter, I don’t think there will be a lack of people in line. Both Cineplex and Empire theatres offer gift cards that you can pick up from your local drugstore such as Rexall. But if you want to buy discount movie tickets, you will have to buy them from BCAA or AMA (in Alberta) or if you work for a large corporation (eg. Encana), check with your social club for discount tickets. Tickets can go as low as $8 for an adult admission.
For the gadget lovers, try the iTheatre wireless eyewear for $139.95. Plug it into your iPod or dvd player then put on a pair of iTheatre eyewear to enjoy a 50″ virtual viewing screen.
It almost feels like you are sitting in a theatre with a wraparound screen. It is so cool. You are totally immersed in the picture as though you are right in the movie.
Imagine plugging it into your Wii and playing a game like Mario Kart. I did and I felt like I was on the track with Bowser and Luigi, racing around Sherbet Land in real life. It was bizarre but incredibly fun. With Tiger Woods PGA Tour, I felt I was really playing Pebble Beach. And with Rapala Fishing, I was on the lake, fishing for bass.
If you are interested in getting a pair, I can help you get it for under $120. Check with us for the special coupon code to use.
Christmas on a Budget December 2, 2008

Everybody is going to budget-minded this Christmas. And talk about Budget, be sure to use BCD code U114800 to save on your Christmas rental. In Vancouver, you can rent a economy/compact car for only $45 for a 3-day rental from December 16th to 19th. I’ve been shopping and comparing with Thrifty’s using the code: LM78 and it comes close. Remember, the trick is picking up the car from a non-airport location to save on airport taxes. In Vancouver, the tax is well over 17% which cancels out alot of promo code rates.
Alot of people are going to strap down their budget and shop for themselves. If you are looking to stock your house, perhaps your new renovated basement with a home theatre, spa or home office, here’s a free visitor’s pass to DirectBuy. We’ve seen the ads on tv where they say you can save up to 50% off all your home remodelling and fixtures.
And if you have golfers on your Christmas list, check out all the golf shirts and windshirts by Antigua and Oakley at savings up to 75% off at Knetgolf. To take advantage of this special, be sure to use the coupon code: SHIRT.

It’s been some time since I gave away some free stuff. The next best thing to coupons is when someone is willing to give you something free so here we go.
Calling all unsecured people – With this coupon, go down to Sears and get your free padlock.
Calling all teachers from kindergarten to grade 12 – on Mondays until September 29th, get a tall (12 oz) cup of brewed coffee for free at your local Starbucks. It’s the “Great Start for Great Teachers” campaign. You will need to show proof so bring your teacher’s ID.
Calling all early birds that live in Edmonton, St. Albert or Sherwood Park – hop on down to McDonald’s from 5am – 7am everyday in September and pick up a small cup of coffee for free.
Calling all comrades – go to Electronics Arts website and download a free copy of Red Alert. It is their 13th anniversary of their Command and Conquer franchise.
Calling all Coldplay fans – in support of their tour, they are giving away a free download of their new song “Death will never Conquer”.
Calling all Hannah Montana fans – get your free download of “Best of Both Worlds” song from Zellers.
Calling all stressed out people – stressed out at work? Get your free Body Eclipse anti-stress shampoo from Meditasto.
Calling all Lego fans – get 2-year subscription to Lego magazine for free.
Calling all Disney go-ers – Before you visit the park, get your free DVD planner from Disney.
Like always, get it while it’s hot. Otherwise, they do run out.

I was cleaning out my golf bag today and came upon some ball markers that I picked up along the way. I have markers from Riviera in the Pacific Palisades where some of you may have heard about ‘Hogan’s Alley’. I picked up these gems when I attended the Nissan Open and walked alongside with Tiger Woods, Mike Weir and John Daly. I even got some autographs at the putting green.
I haven’t been to a major golf tournament but I have friends who have attended the Masters and the PGA Championship. They say it is awesome to be among the crowd and to walk with your favorite players. I think it is the atmosphere and the inspiration that you come away with. It elevates your game after you have experienced the event and have seen their fluid swing.
Watching golf on television has its limitations but there are advantages as well. For example, if you watched the Barclay tournament last weekend, you might have noticed the Lending Tree ad. Depending upon your loan amount, you can earn free Callaway equipment or free golf rounds. For example, if you borrow $100,000 you will receive a $250 gift card for Callaway golf or $250 worth of golf rounds. With a maximum of $750, you can get new irons and one of those new Warbird Hot golf bags to hold the clubs.
Weather Watch? August 23, 2008

Do you live in a neighborhood where every other house is getting re-roofed? I do. My roofing guys had just finished off the remaining shingles on Monday and they are now invoicing me. They left a mess on my driveway and there are unused supplies still sitting there. I have called the main number and told them to pick it up but they deferred it to the end of the week. It is at the end of the week and guess what? It’s still sitting there. Anyone need a recommendation? Well, don’t expect me to recommend Rush Roofing anytime soon. My wife thinks they should change their name to Non-Rush Roofing.
They also promised me they were going to install WeatherWatch on my eaves and valleys for free. However when the delivery truck arrived at my doorsteps, I went over the packing slip and did not find the WeatherWatch material anywhere. Unless you know what to look for or dare to climb up to the roof with them, you have no guarantee to what they have installed (or not).

Our friends go out to Parksville every year for some beaching, golfing and relaxing. They find it cooler than our Calgary heat which sometime gets unbearable. This year is different. We have been getting so many thunderstorms lately that I am ready to move out to Vancouver. The reason we haven’t moved there is because my wife hates rain and she holds that against me for being from Vancouver.
Parksville has really grown up in the last few years. It looks like because real estate is booming in Vancouver that people are trying to find cheap retreats. If you are a beachcomber and/or looking for a summer vacation, here’s a sweet deal for you.
Call 1-866-812-3224 and book a tour at the Sunrise Ridge Waterfront resort in Parksville and get 50% off rental rates for a 2 or 3 night stay. In the tour, they will try to sell you a fractional ownership or a whole unit. Stand firm if you don’t want to buy anything but I’m guessing that you’ll enjoy yourself immensely, enough to come back to this every year.

Something is wrong with the world when you pick up an Upscale magazine and see a dog on the front cover with a $25,000 diamond studded collar. People are making too much money in this city to command products like this. A friend of ours had bought a new condo downtown, facing the river for over $750k. I couldn’t believe the square footage of the place. My ensuite and walk-in closet is almost bigger than their 2-bedroom condo because it is a mere 712 square feet.
Have you noticed driving around Calgary or Vancouver that there are a lot more high-end vehicles on the road? I was following three cars yesterday, a Cayman, a Bentley and a Ferrari. I drive an economical VW Passat and is not happy with the fuel consumption but compared to these vehicles, I’m sure I can save enough for a $25,000 diamond studded collar for Doc, my golden retriever.
Next week, I am going to be $10,000 lighter in the wallet because I’m getting my roof done. Is it highway robbery or what? My builder told me that cedar shakes were going to last me a long, long time when he built my house. It’s only been 13 years and the roof is disintegrating right before my eyes. I’m going with the Timberline 30 year asphalt shingles. With the slope of my roof, my roofer tells me I can get 35 years out of it. I hope he’s right.

There used to be an online store where they would compile all the buyers and make a quantity purchase. For instance, lets say I was shopping for a 18-day transatlantic cruise from Venice to Fort Lauderdale. I would post my interest on their website. In a couple of days, I would check and find that 500 other travellers were also interested in the same cruise. They would negotiate on behalf of the 501 travellers for a price that would be a lot lower than for one. It was a good concept but I don’t think it exists anymore.
I am in the market for a new roof. I was disappointed to hear that my cedar shake roof was deteriorating at a fast pace. I thought a cedar roof was going to last for 35 to 40 years. Unfortunately, it has only been 20 years since this house has been built. I made a few phone calls and got 3 estimates, at $10,700, $13,320 and $18,840 (same shingle). I also got them to estimate my neighbor’s roofs just in case they wanted theirs done as well.
I called the contractor and asked if he would give me an incentive if I talked my neighbors into re-roofing their house. He told me he would be willing to knock $300 off each of our houses. I played hard-to-get for awhile until he bettered the price. He ended up quoting $10,000 for the whole job and will include the extras that were listed on my estimate. In all, I would save $1,300.
The moral of the story is, team up with your neighbors and buy in bulk. Even a big ticket item like a new roof can be negotiated on. Drop me an email if you need a new roof and I will send them over once they are done in our neighborhood.

I see a lot of you are interested in an iHome docking station for your iPod. If you live in Canada and a Winner’s store near you then I advise you to go there and check out what they have. I’ve seen the iHome iH8S model selling for as little as $59.95 there. They have other docking stations too but in very little stock, so if you don’t hurry, there won’t be any left.
If you don’t live in Canada, no problem. Go to OneCall and pick one up from them. I even have a coupon code for you to pick up a free $15 iTunes card when you purchase a docking station or speaker system. Enter the code SUMMERSALE. It looks like this coupon will is double duty because if you purchase a select HDTV, Blu-Ray player or receiver, this coupon will entitle you to a 1-year extended warranty. Don’t need either of these items then use the coupon to get 20% off camera and camcorder things. This coupon is good until a minute before midnight on June 16th.
I hope you’ve picked up your Father’s Day gift and card because Father’s Day is coming up fast. By the way, it’s Sunday. I picked up one of those crank lanterns with 12 LED’s for him to use when they have those blackouts on the west coast. I also picked up a nice golf pullover from Golf Town for him. And talking about Golf Town, someone told me that there are promo codes that you can enter for deeper discounts. If any of you know of any, please add it in a comment to my blog.

I don’t want to keep you from getting in on a hot deal today. For less than $10, you can pick up an all-in-one printer that sells for $99.99 elsewhere. This is the Epson CX8400 printer that can be used as a scanner, fax, photo copier, photo printer and computer printer.
