I’m about to break a myth. You and I know that there’s no free lunch, however every so often, we stumble on something that confuses us. We think we know better but do we? Someone offers you a free sample and as much as you want to reach out and take it, you pull back cautiously.

However, this is a deal you don’t want to pass up. Do you want to get 2 dozen golf balls free? Sure you do. What’s the catch? You simply have to buy something. Yeh, before you shut my post down and move on, you have to hear me out. I know you have heard this before BUT you don’t have to spend alot of money. Can you afford 2 dollars?

Ok, so you don’t need a set of knit headcovers but for $1.99 for a 3 pack – give it away for Christmas. Can’t you use a set of 4 Datrek Ladies’ Driver covers? Don’t know 4 ladies you can give it to for stocking stuffers? How about paying $1.99 for all 4 covers? If you don’t mind looking, you can find something useful and less than $2.

To get your 2 dozen golf balls, click on the ‘RockbottomGolf’ banner on your right and look up the 2 dozen Caveman golf balls and add it to your cart. Then add your purchase. When you checkout, scroll down and in the coupon box, enter the word ‘CavemanBalls’ and the Apply button. You will get a credit of $19.98 which will deduct the cost of the balls in your cart.

Example: For $8.98, I am going to get a set of 3 knit headcovers along with 2 dozen golf balls shipped.

Sorry for not writing but I’ve been on the road heading south to Los Angeles where I currently hang out. First of, I am going to share a promo code with one of you who wants to redeem a free $15 gift card at Dale and Thomas popcorn. Just enter the following code Z5110 P3E9 1788 0384 and enjoy the gift.

Since my last post, I have visited so many restaurants with gift certificates bought from Restaurant.com. If you want to save 60% off, do so today by using the code: BONUS. It expires Sunday night a minute before midnight.

When I left for the US, I was asked to pick up a golf gps for my wife’s cousin. He wanted the SkyCaddie for under $200. I almost picked one up for him at Costco for $144. It was the SG4 model that originally sold for more than $200. With the SkyCaddie, you have to pay for an annual membership fee. Depending on your downloading habits, you either pay for a membership that allows you to download courses in your state or by paying more, you can download within your country. If you want worldwide, you pay an ultimate price.

I bought myself a SonoCaddie and pay a one-time cost of $29.95 for unlimited downloads. My V100 model can hold up to 10 course profiles at a time but that suffices. The SonoCaddie sells for $149.99 from RockBottomGolf. Be sure to enter SONOFREESHIP to get it shipped to you for free. (That’s a $7.99 shipping saving)

When it comes to running a small business, either from home or in an office, it is vital that you fully stock your business with supplies. I’ve shared a Staples $20 off coupon with you before but it comes with a $150 minimum purchase. It’s not hard to rack up the bill, especially if your business needs a new external hard drive or a new printer. Even school supplies can easily make up for the $150 minimum. Here’s the coupon anyways: 5991592125470472. Use it online or by phone.

Any of you planning a Walt Disney World vacation? If so and you are planning to stay onsite at one of the WDW resorts then get free shuttle service from Orlando airport to your Disney resort. This is called the Disney Magical Express and is available to guests staying at all the WDW resort hotels. To get this service, simply ask for it by name when reserving your WDW vacation. Reservations made prior to 30 days from departure will get special luggage tags sent to you. Disney will automatically transfer your luggage from the airport to the resort.

While in Florida, rent a mid-size SUV from Dollar for only $37.99 per day. Or in Tampa, get a mid-size SUV for only $169.00 per week from Alamo.

Mini and Free Software January 7, 2009

If I was in the market for a small, compact notebook computer to carry around on my travels, I would choose the HP Mini 1010NR Atom Notebook. With its built-in 802.11b/g, I can connect to the internet via a hotspot or wi-fi connection. It has a full-size keyboard and a 8.9 inch display, not to shabby for a quick email on the road or to watch a dvd movie on a plane. The best thing when travelling is its weight. Coming in at 2.23 pounds, the HP Mini is perfect for school and for carrying around. Its small footprint runs at 1.66 GHz and has a 8GB hard drive. At eCost, you can pick one up for $406.99.

These days, memory is cheap. You can get 1 terrabyte external hard drives for under $120. What’s not cheap is software. Microsoft Office is roughly $110 to $170, depending on if you are a student or not. With Microsoft Office, you have a word processor, spreadsheet and a presentation tool. The good thing about MS Office is that you can run it on a Windows PC or on a Mac. The bad thing is that you cannot readily share documents created in MS Office with your friends unless they have MS Office. Until now…

Check out ZOHO. On this website, you have access to a word processor, spreadsheet, presentation tool, email, public repository, notebook taker, planner, database application, web conferencing, report writer, human resource tracker and more. The price? For an individual, it’s free. For a business, fees will vary but compare that to multi-user or site licences and you will find ZOHO to be competitively priced. The nice thing about ZOHO is that you don’t need to install anything on your PC and you don’t need to worry about upgrading the software which usually results to compatibility issues or increased costs.

It’s that time of the year again when everyone you turn, someone is giving you a free calendar. Over the weekend, T&T Supermarkets were handing out auspicious Chinese calendars for customers who bought more than $38 worth of groceries. They varied in size, ranging from a small fridge magnet type to a full 11×14 portrait size. I managed to get a desk calendar with two weeks’ worth of groceries.

If you are a Telus customer, get your free 2009 calendar by clicking here. Enter your Telus cellphone number, residential or business number into the form and you’ll get your calendar 5-6 weeks from now. With the Telus calendar, you will most likely get a simple yet elegant calendar with fish, rabbits, iguanas, birds and meerkats on it.

If you’re not into animals and prefer to get $5 off for Ocean Spray products then click here and get a free Ocean Spray 2009 calendar. Offer is good until supplies last and for Canadian residents only.

If you are looking for something technical and free, give your boss an anonymous gift by sending him/ her a Virtualization Dummies book from Sun Microsystems. Here’s the link for your free book. Like most Dummies book, it’s probably worth at least $10.

And last but not least, here’s the link for a free 2-year subscription to Lego.

Since getting my Plantronics 520 bluetooth headset, I’ve noticed less headaches when I talk on my cellphone. Also I find it a lot safer while driving to and from work. If you know someone who talks on their cellphone a lot during their drive then do them a favor and get them a headset.

I’ll even give you a coupon code: 5313492125470476 to use at Staples to get a free Jabra headset. Use this coupon when you purchase more than $150 worth of office supplies, school supplies, a new computer or inkjet printer cartridges. Whatever you buy, just make sure you total more than $150 to get your free headset.

My Plantronics 520 is ideal for people on the go. Just plug in the charger and it can be used for days on standby. When a call comes in, you simply push the button on the headset to answer. To sign off, you press the same button. It’s an intelligent button, as you turn the unit on/off, volume up/down and send/receive. I use it with a Motorola RAZR but other phones work with it too.

If you don’t need office supplies to get your free Jabra headset, get a Plantronics 520 noise-cancelling headset for under $50 from eCost.

Have you been to an Indigo store lately? I remember when a Chapters store opened for the first time in Canada, it was great sitting down with a cup of coffee and a magazine and browsing through it. Nowadays, you can sit down with a coffee but you cannot hold onto unpaid merchandise such as magazines. Indigo stores still provide the odd chair at the end of aisles where people can sit down and review a book. With technical reference books, it is hard to pick one up, quickly review it then pay over $60 for it.

The technical section, especially where the computer books are located, have been trimmed down. This section used to be very popular with books ranging from a relational database to a learning how to program Excel. I used to frequent this section and spend hundreds of dollars for technical books that I would use for work.

If you happen to like a Safari title, here’s a trick you can use to test drive a book. Safari allows you to review a book for 45 days. After that, you can buy it for up to 35% off. Simply look at the last few pages in a Safari book for a coupon code then go to Safari Online and register. It’s free to register and once you do, you can redeem the coupon. This is great for all you techies because it’s hard to invest $60+ for a book that you may not like.

Here’s a few coupon codes that you can start with:

 - Windows Vista : HLNVHXA

 - Programming Flex 3: QYFKIXA

Don’t you just hate it when the exit ramp you need to take is on the left side of the freeway? And to make matters worst, you are trying to get there fast and during rush hour? I used to get fustrated on LA freeways when driving on I5, 55, 57, 91, 134, 210, the notorious 405 and the US101. Freeway signs don’t help neither. Some of these signs are positioned too far from the place where you need to turn into or some are positioned right at the ramp entrance. I have turned too soon and end up driving through a residential area, just to see the freeway running parallel to the road you are on. Or I would have caused a scene, rolling my SUV over just to turn right angles onto the ramp.

It took me a good couple of months to navigate through the Los Angeles area. To make things easy for myself (the out-of-town driver), I started memorizing the lanes on each freeway so that when I needed to exit, I knew exactly which side the ramp was on.

Navigon 5100 GPS Navigator w/ FREE Real-Time Traffic (10000130)Thanks to technology, this feature is known as the Lane Assist on the Navigon 5100 GPS which is the one I would buy if I was in the market for a GPS. As you are driving down the freeway, the Navigon 5100 will display the green signs above the lanes on the display, showing you which lanes lead to where. The left lane exits towards Barstow, Las Vegas and the right lane exits towards San Diego, Indio. Once the signs appear on the GPS, you can start planning to merge left or right, depending on your destination.

Another great feature that the Navigon 5100 has is the real-time traffic service which zeroes in on traffic incidents, accidents and tie-ups. If traffic is going to be a bother for your trip destination, the Navigon 5100 will recalculate an alternate route for you. That way, you don’t enter a void where you can be stuck in traffic for hours. Most of the newer GPS’ have this feature but on a subscription basis only. That means, to enable it, you would have to pay a monthly charge. Not this GPS, the Navigon 5100 has a subscription-free traffic service that works right out of the box. (It is industry’s only GPS with free service)

For a limited time only, you can get a recertified Navigon 5100 GPS for as low as $109. (Check out our links to the right but you will have to hurry – 62 hours, 34 minutes and counting).

I have a slew of office supplies to get rid of including a couple of rubber mats that you put underneath your office chair so that it doesn’t ruin your carpets. I put them out for garbage collection and someone must have picked it up. If you are the one that did, thank you. I rather it go to good use than for it to occupy our landfills.

Btw, here’s a coupon to use at Staples: 5309792125470475. You can use it online or by phone and it saves you $20 off your next $150 order. Talking about coupons, use coupon code: CELL15 at EforCity to save 15% off all cell phone accessories or DVBATT10 to save 10% off camera and camcorder batteries. Do you need more Wii accessories? Save 10% off from EforCity by quoting Wii10 and while you’re there, pick up a Wii Fit skin for only $13.99 with free shipping.

More for your body at Bath and Body Works. Get 20% off your entire purchase by using the code: 20FRIENDS. Or shop at Macy’s and use the coupon: EXTRAOFF to save an additional 15-20% off items that have a red writing on it that says the item qualifies for additional savings. Also get free shipping for your $25+ order at Sephora by using the coupon: SHIPFREE25.

If someone is celebrating a birthday in November, send them flowers. You can get 15% off flowers by using the coupon: BIRTHDAY15 at 1-800-flowers.
