Tonight might not be a good night because the skies are cloudy and the ghosts and goblins will be out in full force. It’s Halloween and tonight is a Friday’s night. Perhaps, next Friday when the skies are clear you can take your kids down to the Telus World of Science and stargaze for free.

But if you’re looking to be creeped out and you’re in Vancouver, visit the Dunbar Haunted House. Admission is free but please bring a donation. There is a list of good charities to donate to.

Today is the last day to buy Halloween Gift Certificates from the City of Calgary Recreation. These gift certificates give the little ghouls a FREE SWIM. The cost of the certificates is $5.00 for a booklet of 10. If you’re looking for free public skating, mark your calendars for November 11th and check your City of Calgary Recreation website for a local rink.

McDonald’s is offering Halloween certificates at $1 per booklet which entitles kids to a free small cone. Wendy’s has a similiar booklet, entitling kids to a small frosty.

Drive carefully tonight and watch out for the little ghosts, goblins and ghoulies.

If you haven’t cleaned and stored your golf clubs, get a tee time this weekend at either Woodside, Lakeside, Silverwing, Boulder Creek or Links of Gleneagles because all of these courses are still open. If no tee times exist for Saturday then get up early and go to your local Golf Town because starting at 8am (for Leaderboard members only), all demo clubs will be sold at a substantial discounted price. Sorry, no promo codes are required and no online sales neither.

For those of you who don’t care then let me refer you to the ‘Custom Clubs’ link on our front page. By clicking on this link, you will see the driver that I ordered for my wife that has added at least 20 yards to her drive. She loves it so much that I am ordering one for myself. I managed to try it at the driving range and the ball flew like crazy. There are two models of the GX Square Ti driver, the draw model and regular. My wife has the draw model and once the ball lands, it rolls another 10 yards or so. If you visit this page, you will see the 15% off banner. Click on it and pay roughly $84.90 or less. We went for an upgraded grip because she likes the softer Winn grips.

Gigagolf clubs are solid. Priced like clubs found at Wal-Mart, Gigagolf clubs are a steal at these prices. Go to Golf Town and see what driver you can buy for under $100. Good luck.

I know the loonie has dropped considerably and that over-the-border shopping has decreased somewhat but for golfers like you and me, the deals are still to be had in the states. Take for example, Diamond Tour has an incredible online sale going on. Originally sold for $128.24, the Grand Hawk I-Cube driver is now only $59.95. With this club, you get the UST IROD shaft worth $51.95 on Golf Galaxy. That means, you get the clubhead and grip for less than $9!

Among the clones, you can get the Callaway Big Bertha clone for only $62.20, the Nike Sumo clone for only $62.20, the Nike Ignite clone for only $39.00, the Cleveland Hi-Bore clone for $62.20, the Callaway X clone for $62.20 and more.

If you’re looking for a looooong driver, take a look at the Integra Sooo long driver for only $19. So, it takes you a few swings to get used to but when you do, you’re going to hit it a long way because this club used to compete in the long drive contests.

If you like walking through the aisles of Golf Town looking for deals, forget the drive and check out Diamond Tour Golf online. You won’t need promo codes for this place.

If you heard of the news about a driver in Warsaw who drove into a neck-deep lake after following instructions from his GPS, let me take back the word ‘foolproof’. Driving with a GPS is not completely foolproof unless you are a fool who ignores warning signs. This man ignored three road signs until his car was submerged in a lake. Even Hertz’s NeverLost system is not foolproof. We followed Hertz’s GPS to Jamba Juice in Palm Springs and never found it because someone moved Jamba Juice from Palm Canyon to Ramon and Sunrise.

Without regular updates, your GPS cannot keep up with construction, new roads, new detours and new lakes. I stumbled upon a Mio site where owners of the Mio GPS can obtain a free map in 2009. To get yours, you must register now and when it is available, they will send it to you by email. If interested, click here.

Some people are using their cellphone as a GPS but let me warn you that it is not safe to use a cellphone while driving. If your cellphone can give you voice directions then fine but if you are relying on a visual cue then forget it. Here’s the software download for a free GPS.

If you’re looking for a free Garmin, Magellan or Nuvi – forget it. Remember, nothing is for free. There are lot of scams out there for a free GPS. Most of them end up getting you to sign up for something that you don’t need.

Sail RT Barcelona for $43 per night October 26, 2008

Of all the ports in Europe that we sailed to on our Mediterranean cruise last year, we were most impressed when we arrived in Barcelona. The city is pretty hip with historic districts, unfinished masterpieces such as the Sagrada Familia church by Gaudi and the shopping district along Passieg de Gracia.

Sailing this fall is RCCL’s Brilliance of the Seas and at $43 per night, the December sailing will surely sell out. It sails from Barcelona to Malaga then to Funchal, Portugal before visiting Las Palmas and the Canary Islands for 14-nights. After a day at sea, it stops at Casablanca, Lisbon and Cardiz before cruising back to Barcelona. When it sails to Lisbon, the ship stays for two nights, allowing passengers to visit Lisbon at night and enjoy live music, discos, bars and clubs.

Two of the most beautiful squares of the capital, Praça do Rossio and Praça da Figueira, are surrounded by some of the most elegant shops of the city, from Rua Augusta to Praça do Comércio. The best thing to do is to treat yourself to a panoramic view of the city by taking the Santa Justa elevator. It will take you directly to the “Convento do Carmo”, an ancient church of which only the walls remain today. It is a pleasant museum to wonder through.

Learn some Spanish before you go. Exchange for some euros and pack light.

I’m sure the drinks onboard will be Sangria.

I’m sorry I’ve been neglecting this blog but I started a new job a few weeks ago and really haven’t found time to write to you. I promise I will make it up to you, especially my loyal readers and shoppers who are looking for the BBD or coupons to save money.

When I was in Palm Springs last week, I rented from Hertz rent-a-car for the first time. I loved their cars. Actually, I love their NeverLost GPS. With it, we were cruising around town like a local. We knew exactly where to go and we didn’t get lost, well we did but it was my fault for not trusting it. Sometimes I get disoriented and think I’m heading south when I’m really heading north.

The fellow at the Hertz counter couldn’t believe the rate that I managed to find. Thanks to this blog, I rented a compact with a NeverLost GPS for only $143 total for the week. I ended up with a Mazda 3 sedan that was easy on the gas and big enough to hold our two sets of golf clubs, luggage and shopping bags.

As a AMA (or AAA for US, BCAA for BC residents), I got 2 free days of NeverLost using PC# 106282. If you want hard cash savings, use PC# 119770 and save $25 off a weekly rental. If you’re not an auto club member, just go to the Hertz site and sign up as a #1 club member – it’s free. After you sign up and print your card online, you can use PC# 118650 and save $25 off your weekly rental or $15 off your weekend rental.

The cheap gets cheaper and the rich gets richer. Free with cheap hotels include free breakfasts, free parking, free local calls, free internet access and free newspaper. I guess they figure that if you could afford the five star luxury hotel rates, you can afford to buy yourself breakfast, pay for valet parking and pay a dollar for each local call. I think it is ridiculous.

Travelodge and ThriftLodge has the Stay for Two, Save a Few offer that entitles you to save 15% off if you stay at least 2 nights. Quote the coupon: SP2 to receive this offer. It is good until March 31, 2009 so you have plenty of time to use it. If staying in Calgary, be sure to quote the Meal Deal Package where from $139 per night, you get 2 free breakfast vouchers for a hot buffet breakfast and a large pizza.

If in Barrie, Ontario, quote the Golf Package and get 2 rounds of golf, accomodations and a $20 gift voucher to a Keg restaurant. Or go for the Deluxe Golf Package and get 2 rounds of golf with power cart, accomodations and a $40 gift voucher to the Keg restaurant.

There are more deals on their website. Check it out.

Golf Purses October 18, 2008

For the unsuspecting shopper at select golf courses such as the Westin Mission Hills Golf Course in Palm Desert, the small Callaway purse for $25 is a steal. However, if you are willing to go down Highway 11 to one of the Marshall`s stores, you can find the larger Callaway purses and tote bags for $7 and $10 respectively. We managed to find them in Icy Blue but my wife would have preferred to see them in White or Black.

If you are looking for cheap golf balls then head over to Stein Mart where you can buy a case of Maxfli balls for $9.99 and get a second case for half price. That`s 24 balls for less than $16. Top Flite XL balls for $9.99 and Nike NDX balls for $12.99.

Ladies, if you are looking for high end purses to borrow, use the coupon code: OKM10443 at Bag, Borrow or Steal.

Register for No-Call List October 12, 2008

I can’t wait for the day that I get nothing but peace and quiet. Telemarketers drive me nuts. They call right at dinner time and they don’t quit. I think you know what I mean. Now I’m afraid to answer calls. And the interesting thing is, is that telemarketers don’t leave messages on your answering machines. I wonder why? I mean, if they left me a message, I would hear them out then delete it if I choose to.

Capital One, the no hassle credit card is one of the worst. Just send me an application rather than pester me day after day and if I want one, I will apply for myself.

If you haven’t called to register for the national no-call list, do so now. I did but they say, it’s going to take 30 days for it to take effect.
