We got 18 bites in 18 holes of golf yesterday at Inglewood. Gosh! The mosquitos were out in full force and sucking blood from head to toe with no discretion on whether skin was exposed or not. I was armed with Deep Woods but those pesky buggers still found unsprayed areas on my wrists and near my face to land and draw blood. My wife decided to try the competition and use Naturapel, a non-deet spray that smells citrony. After taking count of how many bites she had, all I can say is that Naturapel acts more like seasoning than protection. The three of us bathe in Deep Woods and we had fewer bites.
This is a good reason to invest into insect repellent clothing. I saw some at a camping store in Bar Harbor, Maine. I was fascinated by its purpose but was turned off by its price. I need to research it a bit more before recommending it so stay tuned for future news on this.
Are you need in for golf town items? If so, check out Golf Balls (ps – they have more than golf balls) but drop by and see me (in the Golf section, of course) for a coupon code to use in June to save an additional 10% off. For shoes, I like the Adidas Tech Response shoes for $48.95. They keep your feet cool (because of the mesh) and still give you a firm support. Or if you feet prefers the Nike brand instead, check out the Nike Air Max Summer shoes for $79.95. You can tell I like shoes with mesh because it keeps your foot cool and dry. I like sandals but the problem is getting sand in it when you enter the sand traps. Other than that, you get less of a shoe (and support) for roughly $70 to $80. Either way, get 10% off these prices with my coupon.

At $10 a shirt at Golf Town, I don’t think you will need a coupon or promo code. Every time I’ve been there, I have seen a rack near the front with $10, $15 and $20 goodies on there. This week, I dropped in on Wednesday and found a nice Aureus sweater for $20. I’m sure it sold for a lot more in the winter. I added it to my Tiger Woods cashmere sweater worth $400 that I also picked up for $10.
Also at Golf Town, I noticed the redesigned CROCS with golf spikes. Now that the CROCS company have BITE GOLF as a subsidiary, we can expect to see a lot more golf sandals in the lineup. I tried one on and I can tell you, it wasn’t very comfortable. My foot was sliding around and my toes were jammed up against the plastic. I can see wearing CROCS for the garden but not on the golf course.
All the golf balls look like they are on sale. I still buy my golf balls from KNetGolf because I cannot afford losing a $6 ball (ie. Titleist Pro V1). I like using expensive balls but don’t want to pay for them. Instead, I will use a coupon and pay $12 for a box of grade A, experienced balls. Now when I lose it, I only lose a buck and a stroke penalty. Be sure to pick up a coupon code from us before you shop there.
All the clubs look like they are on sale too. The unsuccessful (hard-wired) Taylor Made Burner Draw driver is now selling for under $200. If you have a natural slice to your swing, try out the Draw driver and see if it straightens your shot. The Nickent square driver is on sale for $100 – not bad if you want a clone of Callaway FT-i driver or the Nike Sumo Square. I prefer to stick to name brand clubs and like the prices on 3Balls Golf. Again, pick up the coupon code from our site and save yourself an additional 10% off.

The Calgary Stampede is just a week away. It is beginning to show every where in Calgary. Windows all over the place are being painted with western cartoons. And more and more each day, people are wearing cowboy hats and jeans.
There was a big stink in the paper the other day citing that over 95% of the food kiosks on the Stampede grounds had violated some health infractions. I don’t think that is going to deter anyone from eating at the Stampede.
Mark your calendar for some freebies. On July 6th, plan on entering the grounds between 6am to 9am because it will be free. First 20,000 guests will receive a pass that will entitle them to a free breakfast. On July 8th, admission is free all day. On July 9th, it is Kid’s Day and admission is free to all kids under 12 as long as an adult accompanies the kid. Free breakfast will be served from 8am to 10am. Then on July 11th, if you are among the first 40,000 people who wears a cowboy hat, you will receive a free souvenir in celebration for Quebec’s 400th anniversary.
I hope you get a chance to drop by.
13-nights from New York to New Orleans June 27, 2008

I am afraid that I cannot recommend a $30.50 per night cruise to you right now, not even a $34 per night. Sorry but with summer holidays around the corner for most kids, the travel business is gearing up for another hot retail summer. If you are set on going on a cruise in the next few months, look at getting on one of the 1,416 cruises leaving in July.
Whatever you do, do not pay brochure prices for a cruise. If you do then don’t blame me when you find out that people in the next cabin had paid half of what you had paid. And do yourself a favor, if you are booked on a cruise then call your cruise line right up to the day before you leave. Ask for the price of your cabin. If it less than what you had paid for, ask for a credit. Most cruise lines will gladly refund you difference. Or if you don’t care for the money, ask if there is a cabin available on a higher deck at the same price.
Before I go, you might want to take a look at the sailing on October 18th with NCL on the Norwegian Spirit. For $799, you can get an inside cabin and sail from New York to New Orleans for 13 nights, stopping at ports such as Roatan, Belize, Aruba, Samana, St Thomas and Cozumel. That’s only $62 per night, not bad for my standards.

Everybody wants a deeper discount. If you come upon a website where there is a field for a promo code, you have a chance to get a further discount. Take for example, WestJet’s website has a promo code field situated under the Guest portion of the booking page. If you know the special promo code, you can get a deeper discount on top of the 40% off summer travel. Enter the word: CANADA and get an additional 10% off.
Some sites accept coupon codes instead of promo codes. To me, it’s the same thing. For example, if you plan on ordering a delivery from Staples worth $150 or more, use coupon code: 9398 9921 2547 0475 to get $20 off. That’s a pretty long coupon code to enter so just copy and paste it when you checkout.
And here’s another car rental promotional coupon code: 104182. Use it on the Hertz site and save up to 50% off weekend rates. Offer is valid until June 30, 2008 so you have a few days to take advantage of it.
Still looking for promo codes for golf town? Me too. If you leave a comment with your email address, I’ll forward you some coupons that entitle you to a free pair of Sundog sunglasses (worth $50) when you book a round of golf at the Links of Gleneagles in Cochrane (just outside of Calgary). The coupon also has a discount on the golf too.
And if you’re looking for golf shoes, use the coupon code: CLOSEOUT at GolfShoesOnly when you checkout to get free shipping on all clearance shoes.
Come visit us for more coupon codes.

I attended a wedding this weekend in Calgary and saw a celebrity. Chris Kramer who plays Morgan Pym in the Collector was a guest at this wedding. He walked in late at the banquet and presented a gift to the bride and groom. He flew up from Los Angeles to attend his friend’s wedding who happens to be my wife’s cousin. No one asked for his autograph but then, not a lot of people knew who he was. I certainly didn’t.
Did I tell mention that I ran into Jeff Goldblum at the Calgary airport? He was really good to talk to and he eluded that there might be another Jurassic Park movie. He said he would he love to do another. I would hope to think that the Bentley dealership in town has stepped up the glitz factor in Calgary.
You know the city is on the way up when they close the Sears downtown and plan to expand Holt Renfrew. And have you noticed the amount of Ferrari’s and Lamborghini’s around the city?
Next thing you know it, you’re going to ask me for coupons to shop at Holt.

It used to be easy collecting Aeroplan miles every time you buy something at Future Shop. But not anymore.
Aeroplan has teamed up with Quaker Tropicana to help you earn Aeroplan miles every time you purchase a Quaker or Tropicana product. If you drink orange juice and like the sweetness of Tropicana OJ then with every carton you buy, you can earn 10 Aeroplan miles. If you prefer more tropical juices then pick up a carton of Tropicana Tropics and earn 25 Aeroplan miles. There are other products participating in this offer and you can check it out at BreakfastCentral.
Want to earn up to 1000 Aeroplan miles? Rent an Avis car from now to July 15 using coupon MCAA004 if picking up a car at an airport location or coupon MCAA005 elsewhere for 5+ days or for weekends, use coupon MCAA002 (airport) and MCAA003 (elsewhere).
SUV for Compact Price June 25, 2008

It happened again when my flight was delayed, Alamo had no more compact cars to rent. On the island of Kauai, I was allowed to pick anything on the lot so I went for a SUV. I wasn’t going to pass up the deal, a SUV for the price of a compact. In Vancouver, I only had one vehicle to choose from and that was a Dodge Caliber which was an intermediate size.
If you want to save money on car rentals, choose the economy size when you want a compact. Nine out of ten times you will end up with a compact because they don’t stock a lot of economy cars. I can almost say the same for compact cars. Choose a compact when you want an intermediate and when they run out of compacts, surprise! You get an intermediate or full size for the price of a compact car.
Budget has new deals, get a intermediate SUV at the airport for $189 per week using the BCD U030073. That’s a saving of 55%. If you’re visiting Walt Disney World in Orlando, you can rent an economy size car for $15.99 using BCD U030088. Pray that they run out of economy cars and get a compact car for the same price. If you are in Dayton, Ohio, be sure to use the same BCD to get a premium car for $26.99, a saving of $25 off.

Calling all golfers…if you want to save some money around town (ie. Calgary), pick up today’s copy of the Calgary Sun and flip to the special golf section. There you will find a coupon good for 4 players to play at Lakeside Golf Course near Chestermere Lake. For $39 per person, you get to play the Lakeside course which has a pretty nice layout. There is water on almost 6 holes so be sure to bring lots of extra balls with you. The course may be walked but if you have never played it, take a cart which is GPS equipped.
Also in the papers, you will find a coupon to play Beaver Dam in Madden. Beaver Dam is a pretty challenging course, especially hole # 11 where you cannot see the pin from the tee box. Your second shot is a blind shot. Hole # 12 is a nice elevated par 3 where the green is pretty much surrounded by water. Aside from the golf, it is a pleasant drive to Madden from Calgary.
