Thee Parking Spot at LAX June 7, 2009

I used to be a frequent flyer but lately, I really dread air travel. I’m becoming more and more like my friend Kirk who is scared of heights and don’t like flying. I braved it this weekend and flew home. After coming off on the 405, I was heading towards the Westin hotel where I normally park my car. I dreaded parking my new vehicle in the dark and glooming parkade in the back. The parking spots are cramped and surely, your car will be damaged by an uncaring driver who will park next to you and kick the door open.
I chose to park at the Parking Spot on Sepulveda. It’s well lit and very open. If you want to save some dollars, park on the rooftop for the lowest price. If you don’t mind paying a little more, choose the covered parking. And if you’re ok with leaving the keys to valet, you can choose valet service.
Here’s a coupon for you to try out the Parking Spot. There’s two locations to choose from, one on Sepulveda and the other on Century. You can’t miss their shuttle buses – yellow with black spots all over it.

Sorry for not writing but I’ve been on the road heading south to Los Angeles where I currently hang out. First of, I am going to share a promo code with one of you who wants to redeem a free $15 gift card at Dale and Thomas popcorn. Just enter the following code Z5110 P3E9 1788 0384 and enjoy the gift.
Since my last post, I have visited so many restaurants with gift certificates bought from Restaurant.com. If you want to save 60% off, do so today by using the code: BONUS. It expires Sunday night a minute before midnight.
When I left for the US, I was asked to pick up a golf gps for my wife’s cousin. He wanted the SkyCaddie for under $200. I almost picked one up for him at Costco for $144. It was the SG4 model that originally sold for more than $200. With the SkyCaddie, you have to pay for an annual membership fee. Depending on your downloading habits, you either pay for a membership that allows you to download courses in your state or by paying more, you can download within your country. If you want worldwide, you pay an ultimate price.
I bought myself a SonoCaddie and pay a one-time cost of $29.95 for unlimited downloads. My V100 model can hold up to 10 course profiles at a time but that suffices. The SonoCaddie sells for $149.99 from RockBottomGolf. Be sure to enter SONOFREESHIP to get it shipped to you for free. (That’s a $7.99 shipping saving)

I think we are all shopped out. The shopping spree started last Monday and it just ended yesterday at the Camarillo Outlet. The best deal was a party dress from Kohl’s at $6.80 after all the discounts. The original price was $44.95.
If you have the time and patience to go through the clearance racks, you can find some incredible deals. I found a soft shell jacket by Free Country for only $20 at Kohl’s. An equivalent NorthFace soft shell jacket sells for $150+. I also picked up a pair of down slippers at Eddie Bauer for only $9.99, Puma golf shoes for 50% and Adidas training shoes at $33.95 less 20% off.
On Friday, Macy’s were offering 20% off to anything as long as you wore something ‘red’. Not her favorite color to wear, my wife picked up a $8 red shirt at Target and saved herself a whooping $48 off a pair of leather shoes from Italy.

How often do you go out for dinner? If you live in the US or plan to visit the US, be sure to check out the list of restaurants and deals at Restaurant.com where you can pick up certificates at a substantial discount. For example on my last trip to Palm Springs, I managed to try out a quaint Thai restaurant with a $25 gift certificate that I had purchased for $10. Now you can too by going to Restaurant.com and entering the coupon: EXCLUSIVE. With this coupon, you can buy a $25 gift certificate (valid for any food purchase at a select restaurant) for only $4.
Still hibernating? With Spring around the corner, this may be the time to take advantage of MooseJaw’s incredible up to 50% off North Face. Note that NorthFace offers a lifetime warranty on all of its clothing. Just bring it back to where you purchased it and they will send it back to North Face for repairs. Moosejaw offers free shipping for all orders over $49.
Need a haircut? First Choice Haircutters have a reminder service on their website. Add a reminder and receive a $2 off coupon. Or visit Tylenol and print out a $2 coupon off your next bottle of Tylenol. Fight off a cold by using Cold-FX. Here’s a $2 coupon for your next bottle. And you might as well print this coupon too for $1.50 off an Aveeno Moisturizing lotion.

What can $99 buy you today? How about a winter escape to Huatulco, Mexico. If you don’t mind flying between January 23rd and the 30th, then get yourself on Escapes.ca and book away. Huatulco is one of Mexico’s latest recreational resort projects. Not as familiar to travellers as Puerto Vallarta or Mazatlan, Huatulco offers golf, horseback riding, tennis, boating, beaching and surfing.
When I was in Las Vegas over the Christmas week, I went to see the Phantom of the Opera at the Venetian and KA, a Cirque du Soleil theatrical show at the MGM Grand. Now you can too for only $244 from Calgary which includes airfare and a week stay at the Primm Valley resort. Be sure to check out Half-Price Tix for all your discounted entertainment tickets. Don’t expect to get 50% off popular shows like the Phantom or KA but you can get some pretty good savings if you show up in line early.
If the hustle and bustle isn’t your thing then pack your swimsuits and head for Puerto Vallarta. For only $497, get an all-inclusive vacation with air from Calgary. Stay at the Costa Club Punta Arena hotel which is only 5 minutes away from downtown Puerto Vallarta and 15 minutes from the international airport where you will fly into. Visit Hume-Travel.com for more details.
Planning for Valentine’s Day? Sail on the NCL Pride of America for only $999 and visit all the Hawaiian Islands. Did you know it’s a great time to be in Hawaii? During December to April, you can see humpback whales and their youngs up close and personal with a Zodiac tour. To take advantage of this cruise, visit CheapTickets.com

When it comes to running a small business, either from home or in an office, it is vital that you fully stock your business with supplies. I’ve shared a Staples $20 off coupon with you before but it comes with a $150 minimum purchase. It’s not hard to rack up the bill, especially if your business needs a new external hard drive or a new printer. Even school supplies can easily make up for the $150 minimum. Here’s the coupon anyways: 5991592125470472. Use it online or by phone.
Any of you planning a Walt Disney World vacation? If so and you are planning to stay onsite at one of the WDW resorts then get free shuttle service from Orlando airport to your Disney resort. This is called the Disney Magical Express and is available to guests staying at all the WDW resort hotels. To get this service, simply ask for it by name when reserving your WDW vacation. Reservations made prior to 30 days from departure will get special luggage tags sent to you. Disney will automatically transfer your luggage from the airport to the resort.
While in Florida, rent a mid-size SUV from Dollar for only $37.99 per day. Or in Tampa, get a mid-size SUV for only $169.00 per week from Alamo.

If I was in the market for a small, compact notebook computer to carry around on my travels, I would choose the HP Mini 1010NR Atom Notebook. With its built-in 802.11b/g, I can connect to the internet via a hotspot or wi-fi connection. It has a full-size keyboard and a 8.9 inch display, not to shabby for a quick email on the road or to watch a dvd movie on a plane. The best thing when travelling is its weight. Coming in at 2.23 pounds, the HP Mini is perfect for school and for carrying around. Its small footprint runs at 1.66 GHz and has a 8GB hard drive. At eCost, you can pick one up for $406.99.
These days, memory is cheap. You can get 1 terrabyte external hard drives for under $120. What’s not cheap is software. Microsoft Office is roughly $110 to $170, depending on if you are a student or not. With Microsoft Office, you have a word processor, spreadsheet and a presentation tool. The good thing about MS Office is that you can run it on a Windows PC or on a Mac. The bad thing is that you cannot readily share documents created in MS Office with your friends unless they have MS Office. Until now…
Check out ZOHO. On this website, you have access to a word processor, spreadsheet, presentation tool, email, public repository, notebook taker, planner, database application, web conferencing, report writer, human resource tracker and more. The price? For an individual, it’s free. For a business, fees will vary but compare that to multi-user or site licences and you will find ZOHO to be competitively priced. The nice thing about ZOHO is that you don’t need to install anything on your PC and you don’t need to worry about upgrading the software which usually results to compatibility issues or increased costs.
Decluttering Shoes January 5, 2009

One of my new year’s resolution is to get organized. In the days to come, I will be sharing with you, excerpts or lessons learned from reading a book on ‘decluttering’. Today, I started with my collection of shoes. According to the book, the best way to go through your shoe collection is to try them on. I found at least 10 pairs of shoes that no longer fit me. Instead of tossing them out, I will donate them to charity. If you are interested in donating running shoes, check out this link and choose a worthy organization to donate your used running shoes to. For other type of shoes, the Salvation Army or Goodwill will take your old shoes off you.
Talking about shoes, I dropped in to the Las Vegas Premium Outlets over the Christmas week. I had to try on the golf shoes at Ecco to see what the hype was. All the guys at Golf Town wear Ecco shoes and recommends them so I had to find out for myself whether they were worth the money or not. They were comfortable but I couldn’t get myself to pay more than $150 for a pair, even at outlet prices. Instead, I would choose a pair of Nike or Adidas shoes for comfort and value. From now to January 15th, click on the green banner on our site for “more than golf balls” and enter WINTERSALE as the promo code to save additional money.

Getting Tee’d off December 22, 2008

I am getting tee’d off with car rental agencies. Why specify a car size when you are reserving because 9-out-of-10 times, you don’t get what you reserved for. I didn’t when I tried to pick up my compact car from Alamo inVancouver. I ended up with a Charger – a full size vehicle that has rear wheel drive and was totally useless in snow. I ended up going back to the airport the next day to trade it in for a compact car.
If you had read my earlier blogs on the Calgary Stampede, you would have noticed that we feature some of the biggest stars on stage for free. This year we had July Black and Natasha Beddingfield that performed on the Coca-Cola stage. With an admission to the Stampede, these concerts were free.
Click here for the 2009 Stampede and enter the password: insider to get 15% off tickets. Taylor Swift is one of the performers at the Saddledome. As soon as I find out who is playing on the Coca-Cola stage, I will let you know.
